The original Portal, which was just meant as a side game to Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 in The Orange Box, ended up becoming a gaming phenomenon and garnering such a fanbase that the internet was flooded with a meme proclaiming falsehoods surrounding the very idea of cakes. It was such a hit that Valve decided to bring out a full-fledged sequel this year.
The standalone Portal 2 may not come out until April, but it sounds to us like Jonathan Coulton, the guy behind the memorable “Still Alive” ending song in the original Portal, is currently in the process of delivering or finishing off a new song. The information arrived to us right on our Twitter feeds, as Mr. Coulton was boarding a plane to apparently record, produce, master or pitch the new song. Check out his tweet below and let us know if it got you anymore excited for the impending release of Portal 2 (it got us going a bit this morning!). If so, you can head over to Amazon and pre-order the highly anticipated title now!
And wait a second, did we just call “Still Alive” memorable? Excuse our egregious and sacrilegious understatement! The song might be one of the best pieces of music to come out of a video game this generation. If you missed the boat on this one, check out the oddly calming, yet eerily malicious “Still Alive” below. Warning, the song contains minor spoilers to the original Portal and is best listened to after the final battle of the game.
